 Shahi Paneer

Shahi Paneer is a dish in which cottage cheese dipped in creamy sauce .This dish belongs to Indian origin and tastes delicious and can be served with Naan or Rice for lunch or dinner. In this blog post my aim is to help my dear readers to prepare this recipe at home using simple ingredients .
Preparation Time : 10 minutes
Cooking Time : 30 minutes
Serving : 2-3 persons
Ingredients :
  1. Paneer - 100 grams
  2. Cashews - 1/4 cup
  3. Curd - 2 tablespoon
  4. Ginger - 1 inch
  5. Garlic - 5-6
  6. Onion - 1 roughly chopped
  7. Tomato - 2 roughly chopped
  8. Kasoori Methi - 1 1/2 tablespoon
  9. Dried Whole Red Chili - 2
  10. Coriander Seeds - 1 tablespoon
  11. Cloves - 5-6
  12. Cumin Seeds - 1 teaspoon
  13. Cinnamon Stick - 1 inch
  14. Black Peppercorns - 1 teaspoon
  15. Bay Leaf - 1
  16. Red Chili Powder - 1 1/2 tablespoon
  17. Turmeric Powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  18. Salt - according to taste
  19. Cumin Coriander Powder - 1 tablespoon
  20. Garam Masala Powder - 1 teaspoon
  21. Butter - 2+2 tablespoon
  22. Water - 1/2 cup

Steps :
1. Here are all the ingredients.
2. Heat 2 tablespoon butter in a pan on medium flame, add all the whole spices and saute for 30 seconds. You can use oil instead of butter.
3. Add cashews and saute for 1 minute. Keep the flame on medium.
4. Add onions, ginger and garlic. Saute till onions gets little translucent. 
5. Add tomato and little bit of salt. Cover and cook the mixture for 5 minutes or till tomatoes gets mushy.
6. The mixture is ready. Let the mixture cool down.
7. Take the mixture in a grinder and make smooth paste. Add 2 tablespoon of water if needed.
8. The paste is ready. Take out the paste in a bowl and keep it side.
9. Heat 2 tablespoon butter in a pan (here I am using the same pan) on low heat, add bay leaf, red chili powder, coriander and cumin powder and turmeric powder. Saute the spices for 30 seconds.
10. Add the made paste and salt in the spice mix, mix well, cover and cook for 10 minutes or till the mixture starts releasing the oil. Stir occasionally. Keep the flame on medium.
 11. Once the mixture starts releasing oil, add curd and 1/2 cup of water. Mix well, cover and cook for 5 minutes.
Note : If you want to make the gravy thin, add 1 cup of water.
12. Add garam masala powder and kasoori methi in the gravy and mix well.
13. Add the paneer in the gravy. Here I didn't fried the paneer, you can slightly fry the paneer if you like. Mix the paneer in the gravy gently, cover and simmer for 5 minutes.
 14. Serve hot the shahi paneer and enjoy with naan/ puri/ roti.
