  Daal Puri

Daal Puri is an Indian style bread filled with boiled Split Chickpeas/ Chana Daal and often deep fried or cooked in frying pan with a little bit of oil.  
Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Soaking Time: 2-3 hours
Cooking Time: 30 minutes
Serving: 2 persons
Ingredients:
For Filling:
  1. Split Chickpeas / Chana Daal - 1 cup soaked
  2. Green Chili - 2 tablespoon
  3. Cumin Seeds - 1 teaspoon
  4. Turmeric Powder - 1 teaspoon
  5. Salt - According to taste
  6. Asafoetida Powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  7. Pickle Powder - 1 tablespoon
  8. Oil  - 1 tablespoon
For Dough:
  1. Wheat Flour - 1 cup
  2. Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  3. Oil - 1 tablespoon
  4. Carom Seeds - 1 teaspoon
  5. Water - for kneading

Steps :
For filling: 
1. Here are all the ingredients. Soak the Chana Daal/ Split chickpeas for 2-3 hours.
2. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a pressure cooker. Add cumin seeds and let it splutter.
3. Add chopped green chili and asafoetida powder and saute for 1 minute.
4. Add turmeric powder, pickle powder, salt and mix well.
5. Add the soaked split chickpeas/ chana daal and mix well.
6. Add 3/4 cup of water in the mixture, mix well and pressure cook it for 3-4 whistles on medium flame. Let it cool down completely. Do not add a lot of water.
7. After 3-4 whistles, the filling is cooked well. Mash it a little bit with the help of spatula.
8. Transfer  the filling to a plate and let it cool completely.
For Dough:
1. Here are all the ingredients.
2. Take the flour in a big bowl. Add salt, carom seeds, oil and mix well.
3. Add 2-3 tablespoon of water and knead to a soft dough. Add a little water at a time.
4. The soft dough is ready.
5. Make a small ball of the dough, dust little bit of flour on the ball.
6. Roll the ball a little bit with a rolling pin. Add 1 tablespoon of the filling on the rolled dough.
7. Fold the puri as shown in the picture and pinch in the center. Make a smooth ball.
8. Roll the filled ball in a thin and flat puri.
9. Heat oil in a pan/wok, add the rolled puri in the hot oil and fry till golden brown from both sides.
 OR
Heat a frying pan/ tawa, put the rolled puri on the frying pan/tawa and slightly from one side. 
 Spread 1 tablespoon of oil on one side and flip the puri, spread oil on both the sides and cook.
10. Serve hot with your favorite curry and some salad.
